Course Overview

This course is intended to assist the user to find their way around the schemes that are supplied by Powertech SI to ESKOM. The schemes consist of the 4BZ5700, 4BZ5800 and 4BZ5900 schemes utilizing the GE Multilin F35 and MIB type relays.

Duration

3 days

Training scheduled subject to demand (minimum of 6 delegates).

Audience

This course is designed for people who work with the High Impedance Buszone schemes supplied by Powertech SI.

Skills taught

  • Learn on how to use, programme, set, install and commission the 4BZ5700, 4BZ5800 and 4BZ5900 protection schemes.

Prerequisites

  • It is beneficial to have basic working knowledge of protection.

Computer Requirements

  • A Minimum requirement of a Pentium 3 (1GHZ) or faster.
  • The Installation size will be 60M bytes excluding database files
  • Application: Windows 2000 with SP 4, Windows XP with SP2
  • Windows 7, 32 Bit or 64 Bit.

Theory of High Impedance Buszone protection

 

  • Where High impedance protection is used
  • How it is applied

At the end of this Module, the learner will understand the fundamentals of high impedance protection with regards to the use of stabilizing resistors, Metrosils, Zone and breaker fail protection

ESKOM Ordering Schedule

 

  • Order correct protection scheme.
  • Do basic calculations to ensure the correct stabilizing resistor is ordered.

At the end of this module, the learner will understand how order the correct schemes according to the substation single line diagram

Scheme Drawings

 

  • Different type of schemes

At the end of this module, the learner will be able use the drawings to install, commission and fault find

F35 Protection Relay

Installation, fault finding and commissioning of the F35 relay

The use of the F35 software to configure and set the protection in the relay

At the end of this module, the learner will be able understand the F35 relay, how to set up logics, fault find and commission

MIB Protection Relay

Installation, fault finding and commissioning of the MIB relay.

The use of the MIB software to configure and set the protection in the relay

At the end of this module, the learner will be able understand the MIB relay, how to set up logics, fault find and commission

Stabilizing Resistors

Select the correct stabilizing resistors

At the end of this module, the learner will be able order the correct stabilizing resistors from the ordering schedule

Testing

Communicating with the relays and what results to expect during testing.

At the end of this module, the learner will able monitor online values and test the relays.

DNP Setup

The understanding and setup of DNP mapping in the F35 relay

At the end of this module, the learner will able set up user DNP maps for use by SCADA
