Course Description

DNP3 Protocol Training is an intensive course that covers all aspects of the DNP3 protocol. Learn the open standards-based protocol that serves as the communication link between substation computers, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) and master stations.

Intended Audience

Typical participants include SCADA engineers, technicians and other persons responsible for evaluating or implementing substation architecture or HMI software, testing, implementing and troubleshooting substation communication devices.

This training module is intended for Telecontrol Technicians/Engineers who have relevant Telecontrol experience and who intend working with the any RTU

 

Key Course Objectives

To provide the required background of the protocols to enable the student to analyze DNP protocol related data.

Understand the DNP3 message structure

Understand device polling

Understand time synchronization and time-stamped events

Understand and troubleshoot DNP systems

Learn the benefits and practical uses for the DNP3 protocol

Using the ASE2000 communications test set to simulate a DNP Master/DNP Slave and to monitor DNP communications

Pre- requisites/required skills/knowledge

  • An understanding of RTU and SCADA concepts.
  • A working knowledge of PCs and Microsoft Windows
  • Relevant telecontrol experience
